Already several of our remote recordings of the 2011 Savannah Music Festival have been showing up on NPR which can be streamed here: SMF Radio The Punch Brothers and Ballake Sissoko shows were highlights for us and they are ready to stream now.

The guys have been working hard lately with Kevin producing/engineering Jan Spillane, Matt Wesley, Matt and Zach, Jackson Evans in between mixing SMF remotes. Miles is in pre-pro for a Jason Bible acoustic album and has been working on single production for Mario and Rusty while doing magical maintenance to our systems. Shane has been wrapping up Masi’s album, tracking Bear Fight! and working with several songwriters.

Brokn Tyme and Turtle Folk have been tracking like crazy with Brokn Tyme sitting in the mix cue and ready to roll out. We’ve been hard at work on Masi’s mix tape and the final touches are going on in the other room as I type this.
We’d like to send kudos out to the Trainwrecks on the fine job they did warming up the capacity Johnny Mercer Theater crowd for BB King. It was great to see them on the big stage and handling it with ease.
Shane’s been mixing up the Benjamin Fontenot and Canebreaks tracks and we’re getting close to installing all the cool stuff he’s got.
We’ve been doing some remote recording for the Savannah Children’s Choir, various churches and Scary is tracking the free Baroness show tomorrow night.
Gotta run, time to mix.

The studio has been buzzing all spring and summer and we’re excited about all the stuff we’ve recently wrapped up and what we’re working on now. The Eric Culberson record is in final mix tweaks this week, The Trainwrecks are one session from wrapping tracking, The Byron Hatcher Band is in the mix phase and we’ve wrapped up some more mixes for the Savannah Music Festival radio show Henry Butler, Sarah Jarosz and Kathy Mattea.
Kevin and Shane have started tracking the new Turtle Folk album and wrapped up the basic tracks last weekend. Wormsleow is back in tracking a single with their new line up and we’re working on mixing tunes for Julie Wilde for her upcoming release. At the end of July Soap comes in to start track an LP with talk of new Unnamed and Niche records gearing up in August and September with Scary at the helm.

The summer hasn’t been all good news at EBS, we would like to say goodbye and godspeed to our good friend (and neighbor) Dan Sprecher who lost his battle with cancer this month. Dan was an amazing man, his taste in music was second only to his sense of humor and we’ll miss him greatly. Only a rock drummer and amazing man like Dan could turn 3 months into 7 years of living. We’ll miss you buddy.

In May Miles tracked and mixed the new Magazine Avenue record which is as infectous as it is fun.

For 17 days the Savannah Music Festival offers 100 plus shows of amazing and eclectic music in our fair city. As lead audio engineer and recordist for the festival I am fortunate to witness most all of the artists in one form or another and this year, like previous years had my eyes and ears opened to all manner of new sounds.

Recording the likes of: The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Roby Lakatos, Mike Marshall, Chris Thile, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, The Assad Brothers, Ruthie Foster, Sarah Jaroz, Sierra Noble, Cherryholmes, Shannon Whitworth, Renaud Garcia Fons, Mark O’Connor, Henry Butler, Bill Frisell, Bassekou Kouyate, The Clayton Brothers, Marcus Roberts, Jason Marsalis, Del McCoury and hometown hero Kristina Train was as inspirational as it was exhausting.

Look for many of these shows on Georgia Public Radio and on the Savannah Music Festival website in the upcoming weeks and months.

We’d like to thank everyone at the SMF for trusting us with the location recording duties and being such a pleasure professionally and personally to work with. Congratulations to you all!

The fall has been busy at EBS, we’ve had some amazing sessions and many great times with some amazing artists. Rocktober saw the tracking of Unnamed, Black Tusk and Dead Yet? with Scary at the console. Tracking continued on the Eric Culberson and Trainwrecks albums, they’ve been busy playing gigs and we’ve been squeezing sessions in when we can, the one thing we can guarantee is that it’s gonna be well worth the wait.

During the middle of rocktober we finished up Jeff Shroeders first cd and started pre-production on Eric Britt’s new project. Rod Gonsalez laid down an EP worth of rhythm tracks in record time and we loaded up April Kelly’s tracks so we can finish overdubs and mixing on her solo debut.

Novemeber has seen some wonderful moments, Matt Wesley’s tracking is finally complete and Kevin’s happy to get to the mix stage but sad because of all of the wonderful times and talent that have been a part of the tracking process. A wonderful cast of players went into Matt’s record: Matt Collette on drums, Ryan on bass, Steve (sure I can do that) Gerard on guitars, Ricardo Ochoa and Lise Nelson on violin and cello, Mike LaBombard on Sax and Matt holding it all down on keys, guitars and vocals. We’re also finishing up tracking for Bob paredi’s dixieland project which will also be featued in “The Last Song.”

Look for an EBS merch shop link in the future, let us know what types of things you’d like to see available, we’re sure to have organic cotton onesies so little Zorn can wear some EBS colors.

Plenty of stuff happening at EBS these days, we’re excited to have Chris “Scary” Adams join us as the newest EBS engineer. He’s already been working on Damon and the Sh*tkickers demo and assisting on several other projects. Welcome Chris, awesome to have you aboard.

This summer some great stuff kicked off: Eric Culberson started his new record, the tunes and performances are surpassing the high bar Eric set on his last two records. Matt Wesley from Wormsloew has been working on a solo record and we’ve both been bringing in a great cast of characters to augment his songs and multi-instrumental abilities. September also saw the kick off of the Trainwrecks second record and as usual they tested our abilities to track a well heeled hard working band live off the floor like the Stones used to. 16 basic tracks in under two days!

This weekend the CD release party of The Groovetones new disk kicks off. Look for their rocking blues at a pub near you this fall.

The Savannah Music Festival continues to post new live recordings we’ve done for them in 2009 on their website and broadcast nationally on NPR. Check out the Bela Fleck, Mariza, The Punch Brothers, Vasen with Mike Marshall and Daryl Anger, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, The Infamous Stringdusters and Battle Royale shows on Savannah Music Festival Radio.

The fall is shaping up to be an amazing season for us and our clients, check back for more updates on what local, regional and national artists are up to at our shop.
